Hydropower currently provides approximately 20% of the world’s electricity (1065 GW in 2012), is produced in around 150 countries, and is the primary energy source for over 30 nations.
Those figures are impressive, but the untapped global potential is staggering.
According to the latest findings from the World Bank, 1.2 billion people still lack access to electricity. In some developing countries, less than 10% of the population can access regular supplies. Paradoxically, the nations with the most severe energy deficits often have the greatest potential for hydropower – in Africa, for example, less than 10% of estimated hydropower potential has been exploited.
Countless gigawatts of untapped renewable energy are flowing helplessly beyond our reach. This energy has the potential to lift entire nations out of poverty and break a seemingly perpetual cycle of under-development and, in some cases, crippling poverty.
SN Power is committed to changing this. We believe in the pure power of water and understand, that with careful investment and proven expertise, this clean energy source can transform the fortunes of the communities that need it the most
